Biography

Tolly, along with Jenkins and Marvell, were servants at Loch Laggan covert when Capt. William Laurence was stationed there shortly after Temeraire's hatching.

Ezekiah Martin told Capt. Laurence that Tolly is the more reliable and helpful of the servants. Jenkins would not do the work and Marvell would moan about it, but Tolly would be much more obliging.

Tolly's duties included washing clothing, bringing food as a favor to the room of Capt. Laurence, and acting as a waiter for the officer's table.

According to Martin, Tolly has been at Loch Laggan covert since he was very young, and like most others working there is not afraid of dragons; he would not 'bat an eye at a Regal Copper in a tantrum'.

Tolly would also make sure the various captains were not unduly bothered by cadets.
