I actually think it would help a lot here if someone could scan the image of Lily from the last few pages of His Majesty's Dragon. There's drawings (attributed to Sir Edward Howe) of Lily, Maximus, Temeraire, Nitidus, and either Messoria or Immortalis. They're not entirely accurate (Temeraire has the wrong number of wing joints and talons), but they depict (presumably) what a Longwing's acid spurs are supposed to look like.
