Similar to my work towards sorting out the Celestial family tree, I'm now checking out wiki pages about England's Navy during this time, in an attempt to figure out which ships were destroyed at Shoeburyness. One thing I'll change when I have enough info to start work is the list of casualties - 17 ships were at the battle; 14 of these sank, not 19, as the page currently reads. Wait, never mind. Frigates didn't count as ships-of-the-line, there were indeed 19. According to Victory Of Eagles, Nelson had just returned from Copenhagen with the Victory and "6 prizes" (despite it saying 18 later on...whoops.). Darn, wrong again! Just re-re-checked, and it is seventeen; fourteen ships sink, and three (Superb and the two frigates) survive. The "18 prizes" refers to the captures in Copenhagen. Now, the whole Copenhagen group of the Royal Navy can't have been at Shoeburyness; It initially included some 25, and then they captured a huge amount of ships. Nelson must have taken a group of 17 ships (15 Ships-of-the-line, 2 Frigates;6 of these ships Prizes.) to Shoeburyness and ordered the rest to remain at various ports. You'd assume Nelson would have taken the ships with the most cannons, but since he took two frigates, either they had some special attribute, or he picked ships that he favoured.
