Biography

Sutton was the most senior of the captains in Lily's formation. He was a veteran of four wars. His dragon, Messoria, was not the largest, but together they were formidable because of their experience. Sutton was initially given command of Lily's formation over Catherine Harcourt, because she was just out of training.

Laurence described him as given to "pessimism and colorful language."

It seems probable that Sutton was not Messoria's first captain. In the summer of 1807, when Messoria was forty, Laurence described Sutton as being senior to himself by ten years. Laurence was in his early 30's at the time, which would make Sutton only a few years older than Messoria. While the Aerial Corps routinely assigns boys of 14 as captains of courier dragons, it would be extremely unusual for them to make a young child a captain, especially of a middleweight.
