Posted Prologue: Crucible of Gold

Today’s nur-ne-nur-ne-nur moment from yours truly is that Naomi Novik has delivered the manuscript for Crucible of Gold, the seventh book in her Temerairet series, which means I get to steal off to a quiet corner and immerse myself in reading for the next two days! The manuscript still needs to go through copyediting, proofreading, and printing, which of course means that the world will not see it until next spring (it goes on sale March 6, 2012), but I HAVE PITY ON YOU. Yes, I remember what it was like to be a mere mortal who had to wait (and wait and wait and wait) until my favorite author’s next book hit the shelves. So we’ve posted the Prologue to the novel right here on Naomi’s website—please take a look and let us know what you think!

And for those of you reading the series in mass market paperback, Book 6, Tongues of Serpents, has just gone on sale. Enjoy!

Naomi has a new short story being published soon on July 5th in the urban fantasy anthology Naked City!

Here is a bit more about it:

In this thrilling collection of original stories some of today’s hottest paranormal authors delight, thrill and captivate readers with otherworldly tales of magic and mischief. In Jim Butcher’s ”Curses” Harry Dresden investigates how to lift a curse laid by the Fair Folk on the Chicago Cubs. In Patricia Briggs’ “Fairy Gifts,” a vampire is called home by magic to save the Fae who freed him from a dark curse. In Melissa Marr’s “Guns for the Dead,” the newly dead Frankie Lee seeks a job in the afterlife on the wrong side of the law. In Holly Black’s “Noble Rot,” a dying rock star discovers that the young woman who brings him food every day has some strange appetites of her own.

Featuring original stories from 20 authors, this dark, captivating, fabulous and fantastical collection is not to be missed!

The anthology, edited by Ellen Datlow, is getting strong reviews from Publishers Weekly and Booklist. Naomi’s short story, titled “Priced to Sell”, is about vampires buying real estate in Manhattan. Be sure to look for Naked City, on sale July 5th!
